The New Media Center is a site with resources to help students complete multimedia class projects. The NMC offers high-end multimedia computers with current software, scanners, MIDI stations, and personal studios for digitizing and editing audio and video. The NMC includes a computer classroom that can be reserved for a single session or for an entire semester and also serves as an open lab for walk-in use.
The SORC has 5 "Creation Stations" available for student organization access. These stations can be used for hands-on print and web graphic design with easy-to-use software. These stations also have Microsoft Office and Internet access.
The Michigan League Cyber Lounge is a cool place to play your favorite computer games, such as Quake III, Unreal Tournament, The Sims, Diablo and others. The Cyber Lounge has 6 cyberstations and 18 computer stations (6 Mac, 12 PC) for games and Internet with comfortable chairs and a cozy atmosphere. Open daily from 7:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m.
The University of Michigan Information and Technology Services (ITS), Shapiro Undergraduate Library and the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) jointly sponsor an Adaptive Technology Computing Site (ATCS) for use by students, faculty and staff. The site is an ergo-assistive work-study environment designed to accommodate the information technology needs of physically, visually, learning, and ergonomically impaired individuals.
ErgoPod workstations are designed to accommodate sitting and standing users as well as all types of wheelchairs. The ErgoPod was modified to include 2 CPUs (Mac and PC), closed circuit TV system, scanner, and flat panel attached to a monitor arm. A KVM switch is used to switch between the Mac and PC. Campus Computing Sites provides a specialized software loadset which includes JAWS, Magic, Kurzweil 3000, and Dragon Naturally Speaking for the PC.
